Developments in the Western New York Labor Market
Private sector jobs in the Western New York region rose by 5,100 or 1.0 percent, to 541,500 over the year in September 2024. Employment gains were largest in private education and health services (+3,800), mining, logging and construction (+900), leisure and hospitality (+800) and manufacturing (+600). Job losses were greatest in professional and business services (-600), information (-200) and other services (-200). Government sector jobs increased by (+600) over the year.
