Developments in the Mohawk Valley Labor Market

Change in Nonfarm Jobs since March 2023

For the 12-month period ending March 2024, the nonfarm job count in the Utica-Rome metro increased 1,900, or 1.6%, to 123,400.  Private sector employment grew 1,100, or 1.2%, to 93,400.

Job gains were posted in government (+800), mining, logging, and construction (+300), and private education and health services (+300).

The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome metro rose from 3.8% in March 2023 to 4.6% in March 2024.  The unemployment rate was 4.7% in February.
