Developments in the Mohawk Valley Labor Market
For the 12-month period ending April 2022, the nonfarm job count in the Utica-Rome MSA increased 1,800, or 1.5 percent, to 121,200. Private sector employment rose 1,500, or 1.7 percent, to 91,000.
Job gains were posted in: leisure and hospitality (+1,300), manufacturing (+700), trade, transportation, and utilities (+400), financial activities (+300), government (+300), other services (+200), and professional and business services (+200). Job losses were primarily in education and health services (-1,500).

The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome MSA declined from 5.6 percent in April 2021 to 3.4 percent in April 2022. The unemployment rate fell from 4.2 percent in March.
