Developments in the Mohawk Valley Labor Market

For the 12-month period ending June 2021, the nonfarm job count in the Utica-Rome MSA increased 6,500, or 5.7 percent, to 121,200.  Private sector employment rose 5,700, or 6.7 percent, to 90,800. 

Job gains were posted in:  leisure and hospitality (+2,500), trade, transportation and utilities (+1,800), government (+800), other services (+400), professional and business services (+400), education and health services (+200), natural resources, mining and construction (+200), financial activities (+100), and manufacturing (+100).

The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome MSA declined from 10.7 percent in June 2020 to 5.6 percent in June 2021. The unemployment rate rose from 5.2 percent in May.
