Developments in the Mohawk Valley Labor Market
Change in Nonfarm Jobs since April 2022
For the 12-month period ending April 2023, the nonfarm job count in the Utica-Rome metro increased 1,600, or 1.3 percent, to 121,900. Private sector employment rose 1,400, or 1.5 percent, to 92,000.
Job gains were posted in: private education and health services (+900), leisure and hospitality (+700), and government (+200). Professional and business services (-300) declined over the year.

The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome MSA declined from 3.4 percent in April 2022 to 2.8 percent in April 2023. The unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in March.
