What You Need to Know
July 2025
  • Unemployment Insurance (UI) Trust Fund: Thanks to Governor Hochul, the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Trust Fund loan has officially been paid off. Visit Unemployment Insurance (UI) Trust Fund FAQ.
  • Keeping Workers Safe in Extreme Heat. While Governor Hochul proclaimed June 2025 Worker Safety Month in New York State, she is committed to protecting workers year round. As temperatures rise, New Yorkers should exercise caution to avoid illness or injury. Employers can learn more about the Department’s guidance and best practices to support the safety of outdoor workers in extreme temperatures, poor air quality, and extreme precipitation.
  • Workforce Scheduler: Customers can more easily manage upcoming appointments and connect with NYSDOL with the Workforce Scheduler, a new self-service website to help customers better manage access to the wide range of no-cost career services offered by the Department.
  • July is Disability Pride Month. The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990, to protect the rights of people with disabilities against employment discrimination. Read about how the NYSDOL ensures access for individuals with disabilities.
  • Protecting Youth Workers: In the past 10 years, the U.S. Department of Labor has seen a 316 percent increase in the number of children employed in violation of child labor laws across the country. The FY 2026 enacted budget updates outdated Child Labor law and significantly raises the maximum civil penalties for child labor violations.
