Creating an NY.gov account
You can create an NY.gov account using the my.ny.gov registration portal.
*Employers should refer to our Online Services for Employers page.
Important: If you completed an application for Unemployment Insurance on the phone with the Telephone Claims Center, please wait at least one business day before creating your NY.GOV ID.
To create a new NY.GOV account, you will be asked for some personal information, including:
An email address you use regularly and one that you do not share with anyone else. This is very important, because the system allows only one NY.GOV account linked to a particular email address.
First name and last name: please be aware that you will not be able to change the name you enter, so please enter your correct legal name.
Forgot your username:
It is possible to have multiple NY.gov accounts, which may be associated to different email addresses.
Use the Recover Username portal to have your username emailed to you. Any username(s) matching this combination will be sent to the email address you provided. To recover your username, go to Forgot Username Self Service
If you have used a Department of Labor Online service (e.g., Unemployment Services, JobZone) in the past, you must access that service using the same username you used previously. When recovering your username for a Department of Labor online service, make sure to provide the email address associated with the NY.gov account you used for DOL online service previously.
Forgot your password:
You can use the Recover Password portal to reset or create a new password.
If you do not remember the answer to your security questions, choose the option to reset via email. An email will be sent to the email address associated to the NY.gov username. The email will include a link, that will allow you to create new security questions and a new password.
Update your email address that is linked to DOL NY.gov account
Go to my.ny.gov and sign in with the username and password you use to access your DOL Online Services. After you login select "Update My Account" at the top of the page, then change your email address and click modify account.
You Accidentally Locked your NY.gov Account
If you enter the wrong password too many times, you may get a message that your account is locked and to contact a system administrator. However, you do not need to contact an administrator you can unlock your account by resetting your password. To reset your password, go to Forgot Password Self Service.

Can’t use Unemployment Services Online because you need help with Multi-Factor Authentication
To access Unemployment Services online you will be required to setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and you will be asked to provide your Multi-Factor authentication every time you access Unemployment Services online.
We strongly recommend setting up more than one MFA option. When possible, use different devices for each option. For example, you can setup up SMS on your primary phone number and voice calls on a different phone number. This ensures that you have alternate ways to authenticate if one method becomes unavailable.
For more information regarding Unemployment Services and Multi-Factor Authentication go to our MFA help page.
Note: If you are verifying your identity with ID.me and you are having issues with the Multi-Factor Authentication that is being used with your ID.me account visit ID.me support for assistance.
