- Significant changes coming to quarterly combined withholding, unemployment insurance, and wage reporting for businesses: To improve your filing experience, reduce errors, and increase compliance with employer reporting of each employee’s information, the Tax Department is streamlining withholding tax and wage reporting forms and Web File applications. These improvements will affect the way you file in March 2025. You can find the latest on these improvements at: https://www.tax.ny.gov/bus/wt/changes-2025/.
- Contractor Registry: Effective December 30, 2024, those who submit bids to perform construction on public projects or certain private projects will be required to register with NYSDOL. To learn more or register, visit our Public Work Contractor and Subcontractor Registry page.
- Extreme Cold Guidance: Winter is here. NYSDOL has released a comprehensive guidance to help employers protect outdoor workers from extreme cold weather. This initiative builds on NYSDOL’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of outdoor workers during extreme weather events. Learn more at our Extreme Weather Guidance page.
- Prenatal Leave: Starting January 1, 2025, all full time and part time private sector employees, including employees who are overtime exempt, are entitled to 20 hours of Paid Prenatal Leave per year. Federal, state, or local government employees are not covered by New York State’s Paid Prenatal Leave Law. - Minimum Wage: As of January 1, 2025, the minimum wage has increased in New York State. Minimum wage varies depending on where you work in New York, and if you are a tipped service worker. To find your minimum wage, visit our Minimum Wage page.
