The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sheet Metal Workers, Local Union #112, will conduct a recruitment from February 21, 2024 through January 15, 2025 for three Sheet Metal Worker apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.
Applications can be obtained at Sheet Metal Workers JATC, Local Union #112, 827 East 2nd Street, Jamestown, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. All applications must be filled out on the premises and be received no later than January 15, 2025.
The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as GED or TASC).
- Must take a Reading and Math survey test at time of application.
- Must sign an affidavit stating that they are physically able to perform the work of a Sheet Metal Worker, which may include:
- Working with sharp objects and hazardous machinery.
- Possible exposure to loud noise and respiratory irritants.
- Standing, sitting and walking for prolonged periods of time.
- Repeated squatting and bending.
- Working in extreme temperatures and severe weather conditions daily, such as outside in winter days or inside confined areas where high temperatures can be reached.
- Working in confined spaces.
- Lifting and moving heavy objects and equipment of at least 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Working off ladders and scaffolds at heights of at least 40 feet.
- Must have a valid NYS driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and required classes at the approved school.
- Must be willing to travel within the jurisdiction of Local Union #112, which includes Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.
