The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union #7, will conduct a recruitment from May 16, 2024 through October 17, 2024 for five Plumber and Pipefitter apprentices, five Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic apprentices, and five Welder (Industrial) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.
Applications can be obtained at Local Union #7, 18 Avis Drive, Latham, NY 12110, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the first and third Thursday of every month (excluding Thursday, July 4th, legal holiday) during the recruitment period.
The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
- Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physical exam and drug testing after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship, at the expense of the sponsor.
- Must take and pass the “Wonderlic Basic Skills” aptitude test. Only the candidates who received a Pass score will be interviewed.
- Must provide DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after an offer of employment.
- Must have reliable means of transportation to and from work and required classes at the approved school.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.
