Overview
The New York State Department of Labor is partnering with Coursera, the leading online training provider. Through Coursera, unemployed New Yorkers will have access to nearly 4,000 programs across high-growth industries and can hone skills in data science, business, and technology. Many of these programs are pathways to certifications, professional certificates and can help elevate your career.
New York State has a team of experts working to curate content based on industry demand to help job seekers gain skills to help them advance in their careers.
Online Learning with Coursera is fully funded by the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor as part of an award totaling $12,000,000 with 0 percent financed from state and/or non-governmental sources.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Online Learning with Coursera program, users must be unemployed or underemployed New York State residents over the age of 18 OR out-of-state residents currently receiving New York State unemployment insurance.
How to Sign Up
Eligible individuals can access a no-cost account by clicking the "Request a No-Cost Account" button below. This will take you to the Department of Labor Online Services page. If you do not have an NY.GOV ID, you will need to create one. For additional assistance with your NY.GOV ID account, please see NY.GOV ID Frequently Asked Questions.
- Log into your account and then under the "Job Search" section of the homepage, click the "Coursera" button.
- You will be directed to the Coursera website and asked to log into Coursera. Use the same email address that is associated with your NY.GOV ID to log in. If you have not created a Coursera account before or are not sure of your password, click "Forgot password?" to reset your login credentials.
- Once logged in, be sure you see the NYS Department of Labor logo in the upper left-hand corner of the Coursera website. If you are being asked to pay for access to courses, try clicking this link to be sure you are accessing the no-cost NYS Department of Labor program. The link will not work if you have not accessed Coursera through the Department of Labor Online Services page.
- Start learning! Browse the catalog of learning products, enroll in courses, and begin the journey to earning your first certificate.
