All private sector workers in New York State are now covered under the state’s new sick and safe leave law, regardless of industry, occupation, part-time status, overtime exempt status, and seasonal status. The amount of sick leave required depends on the size of the employer. Sick leave accruals can also be used as safe leave for reasons impacting the employee such as a family offense, sexual offense, domestic violence, stalking, or human trafficking.
