Bridging Gaps, Opening Doors: A Workforce Collaboration

For too many New Yorkers, there are obstacles along the path to rewarding career opportunities. But an innovative partnership between the New York State Department of Labor and SUNY's Educational Opportunity Centers (EOCs) is tearing down those barriers.

Governor Hochul recognized the need to further unite these workforce development forces. By braiding resources, services and staff expertise, DOL and EOCs are expanding access to training, job seeking and upskilling support across the state.

A Blueprint for Sustainable Success

This partnership is built to last, with both organizations committed to:

  • Establishing central and regional point people to drive collaboration
  • Bi-annual cross-training to align staff on partnership offerings
  • Sharing class schedules, training programs and resources
  • Jointly hosting job fairs and leveraging business contacts
  • Exploring co-location of services at EOC facilities
  • Increasing referrals between DOL Career Centers and EOCs

Brick-by-brick, these initiatives strengthen and streamline the workforce ecosystem across the state ensuring that New Yorkers have a clearer path to the career services they need, when they need them.

Transforming Workplace Equity, Together

Fundamentally, this partnership aims to bridge service gaps for underserved community members in need of economic empowerment. By aligning SUNY's higher education expertise with DOL's workforce development leadership, we can uplift individuals with training, job search support and career guidance.

The DOL-SUNY collaboration represents a renewed commitment to workforce inclusivity. We’re excited to be creating new pathways to success for all New Yorkers.
