Long-Term Occupational Projections

Overview

Find the expected employment growth and annual openings for all published occupations in New York State and its 10 labor market regions. These 10-year forecasts, which are updated every other year, are intended to help individuals make informed education and career decisions and assist educators and training providers in planning for future needs. Included with our long-term occupational projections are these important supplementary data series:

  • Annual wages (mean, median, entry and experienced levels)
  • Measures of education and training
  • Employment prospects
  • Comparison of New York State and U.S. occupational growth rates
Using the Dashboard

The dashboard below can be used to explore the data in multiple ways.

  • Overview – shows the annual openings in New York State and regions for each of the 22 major occupational groups.
  • Top 15 – displays the top 15 occupations in New York State and regions based on employment level, projected openings, and growth rate.
  • Major Occupations – ranks the major occupational groups in New York State and regions by total annual openings, openings due to employment growth, and replacement openings
  • Education – shows the total annual openings, openings due to employment growth, and openings due to replacement in New York State and regions based on the level of education typically required for the occupation.
  • Employment & Job Openings – displays the employment levels, annual openings, and median wages in New York State and regions by occupational group, occupation, and typical education needed for entry into the occupation.
  • Experience, Education & Training – the user can view the total annual openings, annual openings due to growth, annual replacement openings, and median wages based on the experience and training typically required for the occupation.
  • Full Set of Projections – shows employment levels, annual openings, median wages, and occupational outlook for all occupations in New York State and regions.
