As regions across New York continue to progress through the state’s phased re-opening, the New York State Department of Labor today announced that more than 95,000 job openings are listed on the state’s Jobs Express website at jobs.ny.gov. The open positions are located in every region of the state and span all industries, from architecture and engineering, to sales, to transportation.
The Department of Labor also announced that New York State has paid nearly $25 billion in benefits to 2.9 million unemployed New Yorkers during the COVID-19 pandemic, representing nearly 12 years’ worth of benefits paid in three and a half months. This includes over $3 billion in back pay that was paid through a new system that leverages DocuSign secure technology to let New Yorkers submit federally required weekly certifications they had previously missed.
“The COVID-19 pandemic showed all of us what it means to be ‘NY Tough,’ and just as everyday New Yorkers stepped up to bend the curve of this deadly virus, the DOL is redoubling our efforts to help jumpstart the Empire State’s economy,” Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon said. “We have moved heaven and earth to get unemployed New Yorkers their money — paying nearly twelve years’ of benefits in a matter of months. Now that businesses are opening back up, we want to help connect every job seeker in New York with the right job opportunity, including by sending over one million proactive recruitment emails. I encourage both businesses in need of workers and New Yorkers in need of a job to take advantage of our Jobs Express website.”
The Jobs Express database, located at jobs.ny.gov, sorts jobs by region and occupation, and allows users to search for jobs based on their zip code and the distance they are willing to travel. The site currently lists more than 95,000 job openings from businesses looking to hire immediately across the state. It also includes a search engine that can narrow employment fields into more than 20 categories, allowing job seekers to easily view potential openings in their region that they may be interested in.
The Department of Labor has leveraged this database to send over 1 million proactive recruitment emails to connect unemployed New Yorkers with companies that have job openings.
The Jobs Express website lists thousands of jobs in every region of the state, including:
