Who We Are
The Mine Safety Training Program provides high quality safety instruction to mine employees in New York State. It is a grant program funded by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) since 1979. The program is designed to train workers in the surface nonmetal mining industry.
Every training program we present follows MSHA recommended outlines. We focus on the individual learning styles of mine employees and the hazards of surface mining in the state.
Content, of course, varies according to the type and nature of mining. We issue training certificates to all who complete the course.
We encourage employers to request training in advance to meet annual training requirements under 30 CFR Part 46. Part 46 requires that the mine operators:
- Give each miner a copy of their training certificate
- Keep all training certificates on file for two years
Types of Training
Part 46 Training - Training complies with mandatory requirements for training and retraining miners and others at these mines:
- Shell Dredging
- Surface Stone
- Surface Clay
- Colloidal Phosphate
- Surface Limestone Mines
View the requirements and types of training in Part 46 at MSHA Part 46 Training.

Let Us Help You Improve Mine Safety and Health
Our goal is to reduce the rate and severity of lost-time injuries to mine employees working in New York State. We accomplish it by:
- Providing safety and health training
- Promoting safe work practices
All employers should make simple, effective safety and health training part of their efforts to provide a safe workplace. Trained employees have fewer accidents and injuries.
