Developments in the Mohawk Valley Labor Market
Change in Nonfarm Jobs since April 2023
For the 12-month period ending April 2024, the nonfarm job count in the Utica-Rome metro increased 1,900, or 1.6%, to 124,000. Private sector employment grew 1,100, or 1.2%, to 93,800.
Job gains were posted in government (+800), leisure and hospitality (+400), private education and health services (+400), and mining, logging, and construction (+200).
Job losses occurred in manufacturing (-200).

The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome metro rose from 3.8% in March 2023 to 4.6% in March 2024. The unemployment rate was 4.7% in February.
