Developments in the Southern Tier Labor Market
Over the past year, the private sector job count in the Southern Tier fell by 500, or 0.2 percent, to 217,700 in October 2024. The largest gains were in mining, logging and construction (+400), leisure and hospitality (+300) and private education and health services (+200). Job losses were centered in trade, transportation and utilities (-600), manufacturing (-300) and professional and business services (-300). Government jobs increased by (+1,200) over the year.
