Developments in the Southern Tier Labor Market
For the 12-month period ending May 2024, the private sector job count in the Southern Tier rose by 1,800, or 0.8 percent, to 218,100. The largest gains were in leisure and hospitality (+1,200), private education and health services (+1,000), mining, logging and construction (+600) and financial activities (+200). Job losses were centered in professional and business services (-700), manufacturing (-300) and trade, transportation and utilities (-200). Government jobs increased by (+1,100) over the year.
