Developments in the Central New York Labor Market
Private sector jobs in the Syracuse metro area rose over the year by 4,200, or 1.6 percent, to 260,500 in October 2024 as the economy continues to expand. Job gains occurred in private education and health services (+2,200), professional and business services (+900), leisure and hospitality (+700), trade transportation and utilities (+400) and mining, logging and construction (+300). Job losses occurred in information (-200) and other services (-100). The government job count rose over the year (+800), with growth concentrated in state government education.
