Developments in the Central New York Labor Market
Private sector jobs in the Syracuse metro area rose over the year by 5,700, or 2.3 percent, to 255,300 in March 2024 as the economy continues to expand. Job gains occurred in leisure and hospitality (+1,900), professional and business services (+1,900), private education and health services (+1,300), trade, transportation and utilities (+800), financial activities (+200), mining, logging and construction (+100) and other services (+100). Job losses occurred in manufacturing (-400) and information (-200). The government job count rose over the year (+1,800), with growth concentrated in local government education.
