Census tracts are statistical units developed by the U.S. Census Bureau in cooperation with local statistical area committees. Census tracts generally have a population size between 1,200 and 8,000 people, with an optimum size of 4,000 people. Census tract boundaries typically follow visible and identifiable features and usually cover a contiguous area; however, the spatial size of census tracts varies widely depending on density. In the geographic hierarchy, census tracts will always fall within state and county boundaries. Census Tracts are generally stable from census to census. This dashboard contains county-based reference maps that show the 2020 census tract boundaries within a county.
The dashboard below can be used to view census tracts within each New York State county. Choose the county you want to view in the drop down under county. The map will display your selection and the census tracts within it.
Each city, town, or village within the county will also be displayed. Click on the entity name in the legend to highlight that entity on the map. Click again to remove the highlight.
The zoom feature is enabled on the map and will recenter on the county selected when the home button is selected on the left-hand side of the map.
There is an option to download the map as a PDF in the lower right-hand corner of the map.
