Mission
The Elevator Safety and Standards Advisory Board works to ensure the safety and proper maintenance of vertical and inclined transportation equipment, such as elevators and chair lifts, by advising on necessary industry standards, safety codes, and worker qualifications.
To accomplish this, the Board looks at industry standards, safety codes, and examinations to confirm that licensed workers are qualified. They gather advice from industry professionals to establish rules about building, inspecting, and maintaining this equipment, and they may also approve the specific tests that workers must pass to become licensed.

The members serve without salary or other compensation. They are eligible for reimbursement for qualifying expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.

An elevator safety and standards advisory board is hereby created, to consist of thirteen members. The governor shall appoint seven members, The temporary president of the senate shall appoint three members, The speaker of the assembly shall appoint three members.
